Polypharmacy Action Learning Sets: pre-workshop registration

The Health Innovation West Midlands (HIWM) is hosting a series of free online workshops to help GPs, pharmacists and other healthcare professional, who undertake regular prescribing medication reviews and de-prescribing, to better understand the complex issues surrounding stopping inappropriate medicines, safely.

The Polypharmacy Action Learning Set is an evidence-based learning series, developed by the Academic Health Science Network (Health Innovation Network) in partnership with Health Education England, that has been proven to increase the skill, knowledge and confidence of the primary-care workforce to tackle complex medicine regimes and to promote shared decision-making.

The Polypharmacy Action Learning Set will also help Primary Care Networks (PCNs) deliver the medicines optimisation elements of the Directed Enhanced Services (DES), Investment and Impact Fund (IIF) contracts and meet recommendation 18 of the National Overprescribing Review report.

Overview of the learning set:

Workshop 1: Polypharmacy – the scale, impact and challenges around stopping medicines, safely. We will define inappropriate medicines and look at the patient perspective.

Workshop 2: What tools are available to help? We will explore shared decision making, the evidence and tools to help conduct high-quality medication reviews, including high risk medicines e-learning.

Workshop 3: Workshop and facilitated discussions to share experience of medication reviews and consolidate learning.

Workshop details:

  • Delivered as three, 2.5-hour, online workshops – all must be attended as series.
  • Sessions begin in April 2023 and run throughout the year – dates yet to be confirmed, with those registered being notified by email.
  • Open to primary care prescribers with a minimum of 12+ months experience, including:

GPs

Pharmacist independent prescribers

Other non-medical prescribers

  • Limited spaces – please register now to secure your place as all previous events have been oversubscribed.
  • Although dates are yet to be confirmed, we encourage you to register now as it is highly likely that spaces will be taken before the dates are finalised. Please note, some flexibility around your selected dates will be available if you are registered for series of workshops.
